1948 Bowman Baseball

The 1948 Bowman Baseball Card Set was the first major, nationally-issued baseball card set since 1941. The 1948 Bowman Baseball Card Set is similar in appearance to the Playball sets of a decade eariler. During WWII paper stock was in short supply and needed for the war effort.

The 1948 Bowman set contains only 48 cards - 2 1/16 " by 2 1/2 " in size and printed in Black & White. The 1948 Bowman features an awesome Rookie Card Crop Hall-of-Famers: #3 Ralph Kiner, #6 Yogi Berra, #8 Phil Rizzuto, #18 Warren Spahn, #36 Stan Musial and #38 Red Schoendienst.

1948 Bowman Football

The 1948 Bowman Football Card Set contains 108 cards and is considered the first Football Set of the modern era. The 1948 Bowman Football Cards were issued in one-card penny packs. The entire front of the card is contains a black and white photo of the player, while the back contains a write-up and an offer for a football.

The 1948 Bowman Football Card Set introduced some great rookie cards: #3 John Lujack, #7 Steve Van Buren, #12 Charley Conerly, #22 Sammy Baugh, #26 Bob Waterfield, #36 Bulldog Turner, #63 Pete Pihos, #108 Buford Ray, and #107 Sid Luckman.  As with the baseball cards of the same era, we see the starting point for a steady evolution of the number of cards issued, card size, player information and attractiveness of the card..
